1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster
This very rare ZF 5 speed car is one of only 350 280SL's equipped from the factory with a 5 speed manual transmission (Code #230). Most of these cars were sold new in Italy, including this one. It is a very highly optioned car with DB 387 Blue Poly Paint, #255 parchment leather interior, hardtop and soft top, power steering, Becker Gran Prix AM/FM radio, Hirschman power antenna, tinted glass and a 4i08 rear axle. In addition, it was delivered new with a 3 piece set of fitted luggage, although it is long gone now. Hatch and Sons performed a complete body, paint, and mechanical restoration to this car for the owner in 1994 when it had 67k miles on it. We bought it back from him a few years later in October of 1998 with 70k miles on it. We sold it to a local collector in June of 1999 with 71k miles on it. We traded it back in June of 2000 with 72,600 miles and purchased it back in April of 2005 with 73,500 miles. We sold it only six weeks later with 73,600 miles to a Connecticut couple for the wife's use. She only drove it 1900 miles in the ensuing seven years until we purchased it back this summer. Each time we have owned it we have done any service or upgrading it required. We just finished servicing and detailing it to our high standards, as well as installing a new blue soft top. This exceptional and rare SL is a true find.
